Third party maps like Navionics may be used with Lowrance GPS mapping devices.
The standard map covers the USA and the world, however the world map is of low detail, while the US map is a medium detail map.
The background map contains some interesting information to boaters and fishermen like 60,000 navigational aids, and 10,000 wrecks and obstructions to be found in US coastal waters and on the Great Lakes. It also shows incorporated cities, metropolitan areas, counties, a select number of major city streets, interstates, state highways, and lakes and streams.
As you travel to a waypoint you're starting position will be marked, the destination, i.e. the waypoint, will be marked, and your present position will be marked.
Map zoom range refers to how much territory can be observed within the screen. The highest range of territory that can be seen is a width of 4000 miles from one side of the map to the other. The lowest range is 0.02 miles which is quite detailed, however nothing will be displayed in many instances because the standard map is not detailed enough. There are 39 different zoom ranges in between maximum zoom of 0.02 miles and minimum zoom of 4000 miles.
Lowrance GPS and combo units with memory card access are ready to accept third party map packages. The list of third-party mapping products includes: Map Create 7; NauticPath USA, NauticPath International, Lakemaster Pro Maps, Fishing Hotspots Pro, Freedom Maps, Jeppesen, Navionics Charts, and Fishing Hotspots HotMaps.
Eagle Electronics MapsLowrance and Eagle are one company. Eagle Electronics standard maps may be described as essentially the same as Lowrance standard maps. The indication of differences in their description literature is little to none.
Humminbird Unimap - Standard MapUnimap is USA basemap map which displays thousands of inland water ways, rivers, and coastal features to a resolution of 30 meters or about 100 ft. This means each map pixel displays the equivalent of 100 ft in native resolution. If device capability exists to zoom further the map may blur as details reach their limit of display resolution.
Unimap also displays major coastal navigational lights and US state highway
system.
Outside the USA, different Unimaps exist for Canada, Europe, and the South Pacific
(Australia, and new Zealand).
Humminbird makes use of Navionics maps and a compatible Humminbird models are

Garmin uses a standard built in Worldmap, which may be viewed here as a demo
display (best in Microsoft Explorer due to easy refresh option):
Garmin GPS Worldmap Demo
The demo display hangs sometimes and usually recovers by clicking the right
mouse button and choosing “refresh” in MS Internet Explorer. However
if this option is unavailable (Firefox), checking and un-checking the “Zoom
In After Recentering” check box will also force a refresh. Most users
will find it easier to navigate the demo by un-checking this box to begin with,
because the zoom tends to operate when not wanted sometimes. The refresh problem
is specific to Internet protocols and not actual GPS device operations. It should be noted that unlike most GPS mapping devices, Garmin uses their
own proprietary maps like BlueChart G2. Third party maps like Navionics cannot
be installed.
Both Furuno and Raymarine tend to support third party Navionics charts.
